You get a pair of latches (left and right) in a durable black plastic housing. They're surface mount latches, which means they install on the top rail of the window sash. The dimensions are about 2-9/32 inches long, which is a common size, often referred to as a '2.5 inch' latch. They're spring-loaded, so they engage smoothly to hold the window sash securely in the frame and prevent it from tilting inwards when it's not supposed to.
